Top 5 reasons I'm sad at Green Apple's sale
A couple of weeks ago, I posted a blurb about being surprised about my former employer, Green Apple, selling the Internet-access portion of the business. So, in keeping with this week's "top-5" theme, I thought I'd post the top 5 reasons that this sale makes me sad:
1. Many of my friends still work there, and I fear that they may be looking for new jobs soon. Even though Green Apple has been expanding into retail since before I left (part of my reason for leaving), I have no idea how strong it is in that space.
2. Yet another company I've worked for no longer exists, at least in the form (or with the name) from when I worked there. The company I worked for before that is no more, either. At least, not with the name or in the form from when I was there. It's kinda depressing.
3. Just a couple of months ago, my old boss had me do a tower climb with him. Now that someone else owns the Internet portion of the company, it looks like I won't be doing any tower climbing any time soon.
4. I have to tell a current co-worked that I can't host their campaign website there anymore, as they've gotten rid of all the comped accounts.
5. Finally, because of no longer having a comped account, I've also had to give up the email address of wintermute@greenapple.com, which I've had since 1995 or so. Granted, I've barely used it since I registered my own domain. But I've had it forwarded to my own domain for awhile, and can't remember where all I've used the email address to register at. Plus, it's just plain kinda sad to give up an email address that I've had for over a decade now.
