Film 203

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links to the movies listed

The other day, I posted that I decided to stick out the school thing, since I'm fairly close to an associates degree and won't be far from a bachelors degree once I get it, and today I thought I'd post about one of the classes that I'm taking, Film 203 - History of Film III, Horror Films. It counts as my required "Arts and Humanities" course and should be pretty fun.

In this class, we're screening 1 film per week, which comes to 10 horror films:
  1. The Bride of Frankenstein - 1935
  2. Invasion of the Body Snatchers - 1956
  3. Psycho (Collector's Edition) - 1960
  4. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - 1974
  5. Halloween- 1978
  6. An American Werewolf in London - 1981
  7. Class Choice
  8. Se7en - 1995
  9. Scream - 1996
  10. Dawn of the Dead - 2004. This is the only remake of the bunch.

For the class choice in week 7, we're each to submit our top five horror films, ranking in order. The professor will then give each position a number of points. Five points goes to your most favorite film, four to your second favorite, and so on. He then totals the points for each film that is submitted to him, and that's the film that we screen as class choice.

I'm having trouble coming up with my favorite five. There are classics like the originals of The Exorcist (1973), The Omen (1976), Poltergeist (1982) and The Amityville Horror (1979). Then there are all their sequels. Plus the remakes. And then there are films like Witchboard (1986), which scared the hell out of me even though it wasn't the greatest film. Then there are films that are being called "torture porn." Films like Saw (2004) and Hostel (2005) fall into this category. There's also the sci-fi horror, like Alien (1979). And slashers like Friday the 13th (1980) and Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and their sequels. And the list could go on and on...

I'm sure my favorite five are probably listed amongst the examples I've given. What are your favorite five horror films?
