A couple of interesting links
Today, I thought I'd share a couple of interesting links from the blogosphere:
First, over at the Center for Democracy & Technology blog, there's an entry about workers' due process rights that I found somewhat interesting because, while I work IT, it's in the pre-employment screening industry. This is what we do: run background checks. The results of the case they're discussing will have an effect on this industry.
Second, Wil Wheaton is asking us not to be afraid this summer because of Michael Chertoff's "gut feeling" that there might be a terrorist attack. Well, I have a gut feeling that Michael Chertoff might be an asshat. Which gut feeling is right?
Wil pleads with us, "So, please, don't be afraid this summer. Don't be part of Bush and Cheney's Culture of Fear. Don't let the terrorists win."
I'm sorry, Wil, but they already have. Our liberties have been crushed by the current administration. Until something changes, the terrorists are probably better off getting caught trying stupid stuff than actually putting together an attack. The department ofthe gestapo homeland security will overreact, forcing women to drink their own breast milk or detain them over their children's sippy cups. With these gestapo TSA agents on duty, I'd feel safer is the terrorists were trying to blow me up.

Found your blog from Wil Wheaton's blog. I agree with what you're saying, but the comment "until something changes" prompted me to post a comment.
I seriously doubt a President Obama or a President Clinton will be much better for civil rights than President Bush. Especially a second President Clinton. Bill Clinton's Justice Department always came out on the side of the government in civil rights cases. I doubt his wife would be much better. Bush has done a great deal more damage, but my point is that the two leading democrats have made no strong statements on civil rights.
My candidate is John Edwards. He had the courage to say that the "War on Terror" is a slogan, and of course was attacked for it. Also, he's the most progressive on multiple issues but, paradoxically, he has the best chance of beating the Republican nominee. Go figure.
I've got a website & blog, too, but I've been pretty slack on updating it. http://www.pacificmusings.com/
Take it easy.
