Happy New Year! Another decade is gone, and it is that time to publish resolutions for the coming year, so here are mine:
First, I plan on writing more in the coming year. The past decade has seen me constantly move the website from platform to platform, without me doing much actual writing in between. I may change designs from time to time, but I plan on sticking to the platform I’m on and actually doing some writing this year.
As part of this plan, I plan on trying a 30 day challenge like I had done years ago, where I post something every day for an entire month. It’s been a few years since I did that challenge, but IIRC I did pretty well with posting at least a link or something each day, so I thought I’d give it another shot. Might as well make this Day 1 😉
Also part of the plan to write more, as every year, I plan on taking part in NaNoWriMo. That is, every year, I plan on taking part, and every year, come November, I’m woefully unprepared to participate so it falls by the wayside. This year, I hope to break my streak of not participating.
Second, I plan on playing my guitars more often. For awhile there, I was in a band and played most Saturday evenings, at the very least. Since then, I haven’t really played much at all. I don’t know if the solution is to re-join the band to make sure I make it to Saturday practice every week, join a new band, or just kick my own ass to get going again. I also have a bass guitar and an electric drum kit to practice on, and my wife has an 88-key keyboard that I can learn. Music is important to me, and I want to instill that into my daughters as well. The only way to do so is to practice what I preach 🙂
Health-wise, I’m not doing bad. I’ve had sleep apnea pretty much my entire life, and it’s been mostly untreated most of that time. It’s time to get a new sleep study done and actually start treating it again. I’m also a little overweight, so I need to start taking care of that a little bit better by watching what I eat and starting an exercise routine. I’m also at an elevated risk to cancer due to family history, so I need to keep up on my screenings. I’m a little overdue in that regard, so I need to get one scheduled after the new year.
Finally, I’ve done plenty of obtaining and collecting vintage computer gear over the years. This is the year I start actually using them on at least a semi-regular basis. I have a long-neglected BBS system running on my server, which I’d like to move to its own hardware and run the same version I used to run back in the day, instead of the modern version on modern hardware. I’d also like start enjoying some of those old games I used to enjoy. I also used to actually enjoy computers themselves, but these days they’ve become mere tools to get a job done. I hope to be able to set things up on my home network so that I can use some of my vintage gear for some of my every day tasks, making them fun again 🙂
That about wraps my New Year’s post. I should be back to post *something* tomorrow, if I want to get started on that challenge 😉
